Hello everyone,
Before our move, we sold all our corded garden tools and now want to get battery-powered garden tools for the new house.
Initially, I need a battery grass trimmer. In the future, hedge trimmers and shrub shears will follow, and possibly a manual lawn mower as well. And whatever else one gradually needs.
I’ve noticed there is an 18V system from Bosch. Since I already have a Bosch Uneo, I would have a battery for that. But the grass trimmer costs almost twice as much as the equivalent from Einhell. I’m not very familiar with that brand. I once had a mower from them, which was okay. And a corded tiller, which was also okay.
My sister said that there are systems from well-known manufacturers that are partly compatible with discount-brand tools. Is that true?
There is also such a system with interchangeable batteries from Gardena. (?)
Who among you has experience with these brands and uses multiple tools that share the same batteries? Can you recommend anything, are you satisfied?
Of course, I want to get everything (gradually) from one manufacturer and not have three different battery systems.

I don’t really have a strict budget in mind, and it definitely doesn’t have to be Einhell. I just don’t know if I want to stick with Bosch (since I only have one battery from them at the moment), because I’m not familiar with their garden tool segment and can’t really judge if they’re worth the higher price.
I didn’t mean to say Bosch (or similar brands) is too expensive for me, but if it’s going to be more expensive, it should offer some additional value beyond just the brand name. That’s why I’m asking about your experiences.
The only real price barrier for me might be Stihl, since they are quite expensive. I feel the same way as Haydee—I’m more of an amateur. For me, Stihl would be like casting pearls before swine.

Schorsch_baut4 Jun 2023 21:48I can only advise against Einhell garden tools. I took the Einhell grass trimmer and hedge trimmer to the recycling center just last weekend after one season. I’d rather cut with manual shears. As soon as the tools caught more than a few blades of grass, everything jammed.
On the other hand, I am very satisfied with the cordless drill.

For me personally, it was important to have not just garden tools but also good quality equipment. As a homeowner, you end up accumulating quite a bit over the years, and having five different systems is frustrating. Also, I wanted a system that is well-established and likely to still be supported in 10 to 15 years. Of course, it couldn’t be too expensive either. I ultimately chose Makita. They offered a cordless lawn mower with batteries and a dual charger (I would avoid a single charger if you have two batteries) for about 350€ (around $350), and you see this system on nearly every second tradesperson’s site.
