ᐅ Gas Prices – Where Is Gas Still Affordable?

Good morning,

I just received a steep price increase from my energy provider enercity, raising the cost to 15 cents per kWh starting in August. That’s really tough, and I think prices will rise even further.

It’s a strange feeling to be thrown back so quickly into an energy supply situation where you have to figure out how to keep the house warm. It seems to me that the government has given up on the goal of enabling everyone to adequately cover at least their basic needs.

Goodbye central supply structures; now the winner is whoever has solar panels and a heat pump in their new build, while the others are left out.

Welcome back, coal heating 😕

Frustrated regards,
D

Unfortunately, I am not allowed to share links here, but all relevant institutions have already addressed this issue 15 years ago. It is possible. Faster and more affordable than anything else.

So no. We do not agree.

Edit: Perhaps as an addition: Even if you don’t believe it will work, it would already help us a lot if we only bridged the times with fossil fuel electricity that cannot be covered by renewable energy. That would mean we would be 80% done with the energy transition and have more time for the remaining 20%.

Hello Deliverer

How? In brief.
The reality is that we have phased out all reliable energy sources and now have to manage with wind and solar power.
So: how do the Greens plan to store electricity in order to maintain baseload capacity during calm periods and/or at night?
The dream of your trampoline jumper that electricity is stored in the grid and magically pushed to consumers by elves was cute but not realistic.
What unknown force have you discovered to store electricity on a massive scale?
And then I hope you will acknowledge the many deaths caused by carbon monoxide poisoning in homes, where people desperately try to keep their small children warm using charcoal.

Why so excited? Did the search engine results not meet your expectations? ;-)

Anyway, to put it briefly:
In the European interconnected grid, the sun is almost always shining and there is always wind.
Electric cars with vehicle-to-grid technology.
Battery storage.
Demand-based electricity pricing models.
A bit of power-to-gas.

Together with energy imports reduced by about 85% compared to today, and that completes the energy transition. (Including mobility and heating, of course.)

Hello Deliverer

Well, I’m truly shocked.
You have absolutely no clue how to fix the mess you’ve created.
It’s interesting that you have imperial ambitions. In your domain, the sun is never supposed to set.
We’ll talk again next spring.
Cold apartments, a crippled economy, and war at the doorstep.
Well done!

I don’t quite understand – do you think we have a problem because we need too much fossil fuel and it’s very expensive, or do we have a problem because we have too many renewables? One issue might be the CDU’s fault, the other perhaps partly the Greens’. And what does the war have to do with climate change? Maybe you need to organize your points if you want me to understand and respond properly.

If you just want to vent frustration, that’s fine too. But please do it via private message so it doesn’t bother the others.

That doesn’t really tell me much.
Is it going from 20 to 35 or from 5 to 20? 75% more expensive (still bad…) or 300%?
Correction. 🙄 I read “up to” instead of “to.” What is the current price?
