Hello everyone,
I hope this is the right subforum... if not, please feel free to move it...
It’s about the staircase shown in the picture (a standard prefabricated house staircase), which I don’t like at all, but it was already installed. Do you have any ideas on what could replace these balusters/railings to improve the overall look?
I was considering glass panels, but from a finger safety perspective with a toddler, it’s a bit tricky...
I’d really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you very much.

I think the staircase is quite good for a standard one.
The question is, what exactly do you not like about it?
I can only tell you what we have done differently:
The wood is ash instead of beech. We added risers (so the staircase is closed), and the treads and handrail are painted light gray, while the rest of the staircase is white-oiled, which allows the nice grain of the ash to show through.
The newel posts and balusters are simple and also ash, white-oiled.

If you are already considering glass, then you probably prefer a more modern style? In that case, you might want to consider a metal staircase.
The wire cables that @pagoni2020 mentioned could be an option.
Or maybe just paint the treads gray?

@Tolentino
Yes, I’ve also seen them in ash/pine. Really beautiful. But as I mentioned, we didn’t get to make any decisions ourselves. We are taking the house as a technical handover exactly as the developer planned it.
Personally, I’m not a fan of beech wood, at least just based on the appearance. I also find the staircase a bit bulky. Of course, that’s purely a matter of taste. Generally, I really like the minimalist Bauhaus style. Airy, light, simple. That’s why the impractical idea of glass panels doesn’t suit the style.
The house is quite small (120m² (1,292 sq ft) without the basement), so there will be plenty of cabinets in the hallway and under the stairs to create storage space. The hallways on the ground and upper floors are logically quite small, with little natural light upstairs. (The attached photo is NOT an original picture of our hallway.)
So I’m looking for ideas to make the space feel more open and airy.
May I see a photo of your staircase? Working with colors could also be an option...

Then it would be better to show the staircase in question here.

Unfortunately, it is not here yet; it should arrive this week. I will try to take a photo where you can see something and then post it here. It will be packed up again at first, since we will still have contractors working in the house...

@driver55 We have EXACTLY this staircase as shown in the photo. However, this is not an original photo from our hallway. I don’t have a photo of our hallway at the moment. Our hallway window is smaller.

We have EXACTLY this staircase. It’s just not our hallway shown in the photo. I don’t have a photo handy right now.
