I’ve fallen in love with a beautiful brick… Unfortunately, it’s a ceramic facing brick (Röben Aarhus white-gray). This would not only cost me an extra charge for the brick itself but also significantly higher labor costs because of the more complex installation :-(

I’ve been searching through all kinds of brick manufacturers for several days now, but it seems this color is only available in “premium” options :p

My general contractor said that light (gray) bricks are currently in trend, so that’s my hope:

Does anyone here know of an alternative to this brick? 😎

Hagemeister Langesund is also a ceramic facing brick. I can recommend it if you prefer a brick that is not perfectly straight.

Just a simple question: if not ceramic, how exactly do you imagine a facing brick in a shade from the white spectrum? It could possibly be a sand-lime brick (although I’m not sure how you would get it in a grayish white or even in a popular range of shades). Traditional clay bricks are colored throughout the material and won’t be that white after firing, so you would need a slip coating (engobe). You can find several threads here where builders express their disappointment with the appearance of these, especially regarding chipped edges; but a construction site is not a girls’ boarding school, and the delivery drivers are rarely experts in handling delicate goods.

Thanks for your advice. Basically, I’m aware of that, but I didn’t want to give up hope that there might still be a (somewhat cheaper…) alternative, especially since there are some members here with more building experience… :p

The Aarhus light gray was also our preferred choice, very attractive and somewhat more subtle for areas where brick cladding is less common. However, due to the additional cost, the brick facade unfortunately had to be cut from the list.

I’m just not so sure you fully realize that. What are you comparing the desired cladding to, and what exactly do you mean by the more complex installation—more complex than what?
