Hello everyone,

I have now received my first offer for 18 windows and I am quite shocked by the installation costs...
We have 18 windows, including a lift-and-slide door measuring 3.40 m (11 feet), a floor-to-ceiling unit of 3.0 m (10 feet), 2 small windows, and 15 windows all the same size (1.3 m x 1.3 m / 4 feet 3 inches x 4 feet 3 inches). Installation is straightforward and does not require scaffolding.

Question to all fellow builders willing to share their experience, and especially to @11ant: Is it standard market practice to pay more than 9,000 euros gross for the installation of 18 windows including window sills on 15 of them? Another offer is expected soon, and I haven’t started negotiating this one yet. But I’m already curious :-)

I don’t find that unusually high. Do you have a detailed quote? For the large components, you will probably need three installers. In addition, there are materials, travel costs, and I estimate the installation will take about two days.

2 installers, materials for the installation amounting to 1200 euros gross will be billed separately.
5 venetian blinds are still included.

Let me put it this way: the price doesn't sound like some "janitor with a cordless drill" job, and yes, of course, without a trade margin, the installer will want to make their profit during the installation.

Hello,
I believe there is far too little information provided here to make an informed statement. For example, do you mean "window sills" when you say "Fensterbleche"?

It also depends on the wall construction. For a sensitive external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS) using wood fiber insulation boards, window sills are essential to ensure a service life of more than 5 years for the building. From my own experience: These can be quite expensive! With installation including insulation wedges, a second water-draining layer, etc., the costs can quickly reach around €300 per meter (about 300 USD per linear foot).

Regarding the 5 roller shutters, we also don’t know if they are 30cm (12 inches) wide and 1m (3 feet) long or 4m (13 feet) wide and 280cm (9 feet 2 inches) long?
So, what now? Just post the full offer anonymously...

Have you requested a counteroffer? It is almost always worth comparing.
