Hi,
we have a 5-core cable for our outdoor light, which is connected to a standard on/off switch.
I now want to install an outdoor light with a motion sensor. When I switch the indoor switch to ON, the light should stay on continuously; when I turn the switch OFF, the motion sensor mode should be activated.
How do I need to connect (or have connected) the cables to make this work? As far as I have seen, outdoor lights usually have only the common 3 wires (L, N, and PE).

Hmm, that doesn't help me much. I would like to connect a lamp with a built-in motion sensor (not a separate sensor) to the existing wiring so that it works as described above. Is that possible, or do I need a special lamp or have to replace the switch (currently, it seems to be a simple on/off switch)?

In that case, you would have to bypass the motion sensor.
I’m not sure if some models have a permanent on/off switch integrated. If they do, the control would usually only be possible on the device itself. If everything isn’t soldered onto one circuit board, you might be able to incorporate an external switch there with some DIY modifications. Personally, I wouldn’t feel confident tampering with a device like that.
Probably best to just ask an electrician.
Using a separate motion sensor definitely works. I have installed a similar setup in the hallway of my current apartment.
I would also say that it works better with a separate motion sensor. The combination of a lamp and motion sensor is internally wired, and I would avoid that. The only thing you can do with your switch right now is turn it on (the light comes on when the motion sensor is triggered) or off (the light stays off even if the motion sensor is triggered).

Does that mean switch on = constant light, and switch off = motion sensor controls the light?
