Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for a ceiling light with a motion sensor to install under our house entrance canopy.

We have had an electrical connection installed here (center of the canopy) and would like to install a lamp with a motion sensor.

It feels like there is absolutely NOTHING available on the market...

Has anyone had a similar experience and could share how they approached this?

We are looking for a square-shaped lamp in anthracite, but so far I can only find wall lights that are not suitable for ceiling installation.

Is there possibly a way to buy a lamp WITHOUT a motion sensor and control it separately?

It is actually quite rare.

One option might be to install the desired lamp there and add a timer switch or something similar on the other cable.
I don’t know how it is set up at your place. It could be that the cable goes directly to the distribution board with constant power, or it may go to a switch that you can turn on or off separately.
Depending on where the cable ends, there are different solutions...
Another solution, and probably the simplest, would be to get a suitable lamp without integrated LEDs and then add LED bulbs from, for example, Philips Hue. You can then control them via an app to turn on and off. The advantage is that you don’t have to fiddle with the electrical wiring and don’t need a professional for that.

I’ve attached one I found that would work. It should be bright enough because it has two sockets. If it’s too bright, you can easily dim it.

I don’t know how it looks in your case. It’s possible that the cable goes directly to the distribution board and is always live, or it might go to a switch so you can turn it on and off separately.

Another solution, and probably the easiest, would be to get a lamp without integrated LED and then buy a LED module, for example from Philips Hue. You can then control it via an app to set on and off times... The advantage is that you don’t have to fiddle with the wiring and don’t need someone to come out just for that.

In our case, it looks roughly like this:

Modern house facade with canopy, dark door with glass strip, window, and gravel ground.

As I can see in this picture, there is also a ceiling light installed here 😀

We would really like something similar, of course for a reasonable price and with a nice design (rectangular and in anthracite).

I had also considered the Philips Hue option – unfortunately, this only allows control by TIME and not by motion... 🙁

Either we have to invest quite a bit and buy a fixture for 150€ (I already found one like that) or look for other solutions...

We would love to have something like that as well, of course for a reasonable price and with an attractive design (square and in anthracite).

There is also a motion sensor at the front. If it’s still possible to run a second cable somewhere, you could use a motion sensor. However, in my opinion, it looks a bit questionable...

There is a battery-powered outdoor version from Hue as well. It costs 39€. Also available in anthracite.

Why do people usually show pictures from somewhere else instead of their own construction site or house?
The light fixture is basically “shielded” there, so integrated motion sensors don’t work very well.

I would have planned small LED spots from the start…

Here is a picture of our entrance.
