ᐅ Widening the driveway – insufficient paving stones

Hello everyone,
I would like to widen our driveway, and the small flower bed shown in the photo is going to be removed.
My problem is that I don’t have enough paving stones left. I have two or three pieces lying around here. I could take some from a corner further up where the trash bins are currently placed. I could separate that area with other stones or slabs. However, according to my calculation, I’m still missing some stones to close the gap.
Now I’m hoping for some good ideas from you. I have already considered removing a few rows of stones near the street in front of the wide concrete strip and laying a different kind of paving there. I had already searched on eBay Classifieds for such stones but didn’t find anything. Do you have any other ideas on how I could solve this? And please, no suggestions like “repave the entire driveway”... I’m not planning that at the moment and it’s not in the budget. Thanks

Well, I would have suggested "buying" as well. You think these stones are no longer available? I don’t believe that 🙂
And if they are, I would frame it with a contrasting border.

The shape of the tile is called Arabesque / Arabesk.. Maybe that helps with the further search..

Thank you. That might help with the search. I haven’t found anything yet on eBay Classifieds but I’m still looking.

My problem until today was that I didn’t even know the name of this brick or its shape. That made it difficult to search if it’s still available for purchase. But I will contact a few building material suppliers in my area. I just haven’t seen this type of paving anywhere else, and since it’s 40 years old, I assumed it probably isn’t sold anymore. But I’m happy to be proven wrong.

Just a different question. I've been thinking about repaving the driveway. Unfortunately, I don’t know exactly how the base layer is constructed. Would it be possible to simply lay new paving stones over the existing base? Maybe apply a layer of gravel/sand and then place the new stones on top? I know repaving a driveway is a lot of work, but I’m considering whether I should go ahead and do it now. I still have some money left from the renovation to possibly have it done, probably not enough to hire someone, but the stones themselves aren’t very expensive. Does anyone have experience with this?

In the photos, I don’t see any ruts—what does it look like in real life?

Any unwanted puddles?

The paving already looks quite old; if there haven’t been any ruts so far, the base layer is probably in good condition.

So you could take the risk and repave over it.

But is it really urgent to remove the flower bed?
Maybe wait another 1-2 years until your budget is a bit more flexible and then redo it with a new base layer? That way, at least you would have the option to replace the base when the area is exposed, without financial pressure.

There are no puddles, but the driveway is sloped, so water drains off easily. There aren’t really any visible ruts either, so overall it still looks quite good. The flower bed doesn’t necessarily have to be removed; it just gets a bit in the way when driving in and out. In theory, everything could stay as it is for now. However, we’ve already done quite a bit of remodeling, and the driveway would be the last “highlight” for me. It can wait if necessary. I need to find out what it would even cost, since it’s about 40 square meters (430 square feet). That’s also why I’m wondering if the base layer could be left as is. My father and I could probably manage just relaying the paving stones ourselves. But thanks already for all the ideas and suggestions.
