Hello,
can anyone maybe shed some light on this?
I've already heard from two companies that they cannot provide a quote for installing the washbasins we supplied ourselves because they are not allowed to install them dürfen. Even our plumber, who is handling the rest of the house installations, said he is not allowed to do it. Then I asked a carpentry company installing our staircase, and they also say they are not allowed to do it. I am also not receiving any offers or inquiries from my request for quotes on MyHammer.
I'm missing a piece of the puzzle here to understand. Why exactly is no one allowed to do this?

Mine didn’t accept it because he also makes money from it. Does the plumber really also profit from the products bought at the specialist retailer? Ultimately, the general contractor earns from the products and then passes the work on to the plumber. The plumber should only charge for his labor, right? Or do you mean he also gets some kind of commission from the whole thing?
I thought only the general contractor profits—I will tell him that he will only get the contract if we are allowed to source the sanitary fixtures ourselves. I’m curious how my general contractor will react... We’ll confront him with this during our conversation tonight.

Does anyone have experience ordering all sanitary fixtures online instead of buying them from the local specialist supplier, having them delivered to the construction site, and then having the plumber install them according to the general contractor’s specifications? Yes, see the previous comments in this thread.

You can save a lot of money this way, right? “Right” is debatable, because what do you really save with a double vanity if you end up buying it twice: once where it’s cheaper and again through the installer who fits it?

Or do you think they also get some kind of commission from the whole deal? Whether the general contractor or their subcontractor sends you to the specialist supplier, they do it because of the supplier’s commission in both cases. Subcontractors who only do installation for the general contractor are rare; take a closer look at how often you read here in defect claims that the general contractor passes the issue on to the subcontractor (who apparently is liable back to the general contractor).

“Oder nicht” (or not) is correct, because how exactly does a double sink save you money if you buy it twice: once where it’s cheaper, and once from the installer who fits it?
Whether the general contractor (GC) or their subcontractor sends you to the specialist dealer, it’s usually because of their commission. Subcontractors who only handle installation for the GC are quite rare: pay attention to how often you read in defect complaints that the GC passes the issue on to the subcontractor (who often seems to be the GC’s fallback party). I don’t fully understand. I have price estimates for bathroom furniture. I get the value portion deducted and buy the same product 30-50% cheaper online. Installation costs are still included.
Is this way of thinking wrong?
I understand that they also make money on it, no question! But it does seem sensible if the GC agrees to this, doesn’t it?

Alessandro5 Oct 2020 13:56A different question:
Can you buy brake discs and calipers online, take them to the authorized workshop, and only pay the labor cost for installation?
Can you buy the switch program and cables online, and have the electrician charge you only for the installation?
I could have saved 7,000 euros in my main bathroom alone if I had bought the parts online.
However, the plumber did not allow this for warranty reasons.
Now my acrylic bathtub has cracked and needs to be completely removed and replaced. Who would cover the costs in your case?
