ᐅ Advantages and Disadvantages: External Venetian Blinds or Roller Shutters?

Hello!
We are considering whether to choose Venetian blinds or roller shutters.
Originally, I preferred roller shutters because they seem to offer better burglary protection. However, an architect advised us against this, saying that roller shutters can also be easily broken into. He believes that with almost the same level of burglary protection, Venetian blinds are much more comfortable and provide greater flexibility.
So far, we have only had roller shutters or interior blinds, so we lack direct comparisons.

Do you also think that roller shutters are not significantly "safer" than Venetian blinds?
Can you think of other pros and cons?

That would offer too little functionality for me. Shading in summer? I would always have to remember to lower the blinds in the morning.
For vacation, the option to set flexible times.
And so on.

Old-fashioned switches? Then what about crank handles? (Are crank handles even still available for purchase—or am I just outing myself as a dinosaur again?)

We can get those too, but I haven’t been able to see them in person anywhere. Have you ever seen them live?

What personally bothers me a lot about roller shutters is (besides the appearance) that there is only light or dark. You can’t just have slight shading.

Yes. As I said, a very sturdy construction—and I'm not easily impressed. But "suitable up to early Force 10 wind" is quite a statement...

No, not just that, mostly via smartphone.

@Müllerin was referring to the post by obstlerbaum.
I didn’t understand why someone would want to operate exclusively with switches. To me, it’s like casting pearls before swine.
