Hello!
We are considering whether to choose Venetian blinds or roller shutters.
Originally, I preferred roller shutters because they seem to offer better burglary protection. However, an architect advised us against this, saying that roller shutters can also be easily broken into. He believes that with almost the same level of burglary protection, Venetian blinds are much more comfortable and provide greater flexibility.
So far, we have only had roller shutters or interior blinds, so we lack direct comparisons.
Do you also think that roller shutters are not significantly "safer" than Venetian blinds?
Can you think of other pros and cons?

In our current house, we have venetian blinds. To be honest, I wouldn’t want anything else. They are really very durable (there may be different qualities). For us, they are a must-have for the upcoming house construction.
I see the advantages in the adjustable positioning, which allows for controlling sunlight and shading of each room. Since we want them anyway on the ground floor (living room, dining room, kitchen) and I’m not a fan of having different systems, we will also have them on the upper floor.
Of course, it is primarily a matter of personal taste. The prices for venetian blinds are no longer as high as they were 10 to 12 years ago. This can certainly make the decision easier.

I don’t see cleaning the roller shutters as a problem either. Just drive up and hold a hose on them.
High-speed motors are an option if you think they operate too slowly. We have them on the doors—great and quiet! For the windows, we didn’t see it as necessary. I really don’t mind how long they take to open or close.
Proper automation is essential—especially for situations like vacations or storms.
Our shutters don’t rattle at all! Since I’m very sensitive to noise, I expected it to be annoying, but we haven’t heard anything.
When I built my first house 13 years ago, we decided against them for cost reasons. The prices have dropped significantly, just as you said, @montessalet!
I never wanted anything else again!

Obstlerbaum26 Feb 2019 08:29Our venetian blinds for the living/dining area and kitchen are installed without wind sensors. These are the wind-resistant blackout slats from Warema, and in my opinion, you wouldn’t be able to break them without a sledgehammer. I see no issues with them in wind speeds up to 140 km/h (87 mph).

But how do you control the venetian blinds? Just with an up-down switch?` Exactly – Old School, as the "Smartphone Unboxing Generation" would say.
