We are about to start building our single-family house with approximately 150 m² (1,615 sq ft) of living space. Both floors will have underfloor heating, and we are considering the type of flooring.
We are very attracted to the look and feel of tumbled travertine natural stone. It will be installed in a Roman pattern.
In my view, the following tasks will be required:
Thanks for your assessment.

In my view, the following tasks will be required:
- Preparation and priming of the floor
- Laying the tiles with special natural stone tile adhesive
- Sealing the entire surface
- Grouting the entire surface – which here also means filling the open pores of the tiles
Thanks for your assessment.
Best regards

We also decided on travertine. We sourced the travertine, adhesive, and grout ourselves (from jonastone). Our builder gave us a corresponding credit for that. He then installed it at no additional cost. We were very satisfied. Best regards, Steffi.Hi Steffi,
We also really like a travertine floor like that. Could you share your experience regarding its maintenance? How often do you seal the floor, how much time does it take, where did you buy the floor, and does it always look dirty?

Visually and to the touch, we find the natural travertine stone (tumbled) very appealing. [...] Does anyone have experience with the actual costs to expect for an area of 150 m² (1600 sq ft) when fully contracted out?I hope I misunderstood and that the entire floor area is not seriously intended to be covered with natural stone (?). An accent stops being an accent when it is overused.

Hello Vicky, we are very satisfied with our travertine and it continues to receive compliments. It was sealed immediately after installation (2017) and hasn’t been treated since. So far, it didn’t seem necessary. Dirt is barely visible at all. Of course, that’s “risky” because it means I clean less often. It’s important to use a stain-resistant grout in a perfectly matching color. Be careful not to cover it with painter’s plastic during construction! That can cause mold spots that are impossible to remove! PS. We ordered from Jonastone... price per square meter about 42 EUR.
For the living and bedrooms, we chose wooden floorboards, as stone felt too cold and hard for us.
