Hi!
Has anyone here installed a separate water meter for their garden irrigation to save on wastewater charges? It’s not free, of course; I’m curious whether it’s actually cost-effective.

No. The meter is usually owned privately and generally needs to be calibrated. Many water utilities charge annual service fees for secondary connections; some around 15 euros, others about 50 euros. Additionally, there is often a fee for sealing the meter.

I’ll jump in here, same question on my end. Do you really use enough water for the meter to be worthwhile? Do you have any figures, Alex? You need to check your local regulations for that.
Here, I pay roughly €1.50 per m³ (about 264 gallons) of fresh water. Wastewater costs twice as much on top. The latter can be saved if you have a separate meter, since no wastewater is generated (it soaks into the ground). For a garden, 30–40 m³ (about 8,000–10,500 gallons) per year is common, which amounts to €90–120 in wastewater fees annually.
A certified meter on Amazon costs around €20. Plus installation.
