We plan to purchase wood-aluminum windows for our new build. The total window area is approximately 56 m² (600 sq ft) and includes, among other things, a lift-and-slide door element as well as many floor-to-ceiling windows. We are building without a general contractor and would like to inquire about windows directly.

According to my research, there is a large selection of suppliers. We are looking for a reasonable price-performance ratio. I also do not want to contact 10 different suppliers.

Does anyone have a recommendation or tips on which manufacturer offers a good price-performance ratio?

Thank you in advance.

Only a few offer wood-aluminum windows. I’m not sure there are even ten providers available, and I definitely don’t see any price competition in this segment.

I can recommend Kneer Süd, great quality, family-run, and reasonably priced.

I can confirm that. I asked the Pax dealer for a quote.
In the end, he didn’t want to take the job himself because the price of 87,000 exceeded his guaranteed limit, and some of the windows weighing up to 250kg (550 lbs) were too heavy for him.

It’s crazy—plastic windows from the general contractor would have cost around 30,000.
You can only reject such an offer.

The wood-aluminum windows from the general contractor only cost about 12,000 more in combination with KfW55.
Apparently, Pax charges quite pharmaceutical prices.

"Pharmacist price" is relative. Firstly, most home builders’ sense of value is somewhat distorted. This is because windows tend to be one of the last items tackled, and there is a strong temptation to balance an overrun budget at this point. This leads many customers to lean toward PVC (uPVC), even if they would have preferred other options. Secondly, this makes them more susceptible to cheap offers that look flawless on the surface. With windows, quality simply becomes apparent much later than with shoes.

Thirdly—but building on the motivation behind the preference for PVC—customers in the aluminum window sector are often those who want to show they can spend more. This keeps the price level for aluminum windows at a more sustainable range.

If someone then adds a little luxury by asking for wood-aluminum windows, which are more complex and produced by far fewer manufacturers, it inevitably comes at an even higher price in a market economy. You do get good value, but the price-comparison-worn consumer of course thinks, “They must be crazy.”

That is why I always say wood-aluminum isn’t for budget-conscious buyers. You pay for it with a platinum card. PAX offers high quality and all materials, including wood with custom profiles for historic preservation. These were my two main reasons for choosing PAX instead of continuing my own production.

Hello,

Most of my friends have wooden-aluminum windows from Döpfner installed. So far, everyone is very satisfied.

I also requested a quote for these windows. The additional cost compared to uPVC windows is 30%. Whether this extra cost is justified is something each person must decide for themselves.

Good luck
