ᐅ Are there Ikea Pax doors with special sound insulation?

Good morning everyone, I have a somewhat specific question regarding the Ikea Pax wardrobe doors: Are there any Ikea Pax door models that come with built-in sound insulation? I’m not just referring to the usual soft-close hinges, but doors that significantly reduce noise due to their material or an additional layer—basically a kind of quiet door solution for rental apartments or bedrooms where noise reduction is important. Has anyone had experience with this or knows if Ikea officially offers something like this?

Hello everyone! To revisit the original question: As far as I know, Ikea does not actually sell Pax doors with integrated specialized sound insulation. Most doors are made of medium-density fiberboard and glass, which provide only average soundproofing.

However, I have seen people attach insulating materials like cork, acoustic foam, or even felt to the inside of the doors. This at least helps to reduce echo and reverberation.

In addition, soft-close hinges are recommended, and some dampers can be purchased as retrofit kits from Ikea.

In general:
- Solid or heavier doors provide better sound insulation
- Adding insulation materials on the inside helps
- Properly adjusted soft-close mechanisms prevent annoying slamming noises

So if someone is looking for a quiet door solution, it’s worth paying attention to the materials and retrofit options.

No PAX doors with special insulation from Ikea. Only standard material. Retrofits like felt strips or foam are possible and improve the sound.

Additional information: The sound insulation of PAX doors largely depends on the type of door. Sliding doors, for example, insulate differently than hinged doors. There is no special soundproofing variant, but heavier doors absorb more noise.

Soft-close hinges are the best available solution to prevent loud slamming.

Hello everyone! I can only say: I recently fitted the standard PAX hinged doors with soft-close hinges and attached felt strips on the inside. The result is excellent! The doors close very quietly, and even when you slam them shut, you barely hear anything.

This is, in my opinion, the best combination so far. I can truly recommend it to anyone who values quiet cabinet doors. So don’t give up—there are solutions! 🙂

Thanks for sharing your experience! That already gives some practical steps. Were the soft-close hinges purchased directly from IKEA or from an external supplier?

I’m asking because I’m unsure whether they can simply be retrofitted or if there are dimensional restrictions for the door or frame. Does anyone have a brief update on this?

Also: How much do the felt strips improve the sound? Do they really provide noticeable damping, or are they more of an aesthetic addition?

The soft-close hinges from Ikea are specifically designed for Pax doors and generally fit most versions as standard. However, with custom sizes or door types, dimensional deviations may occur that require adjustments.

Felt strips mainly reduce the noise caused by wood contacting metal or wood on wood – they decrease contact noise, but have only a marginal effect on airborne sound insulation. They effectively complement the soft-close system and make closing smoother.
