Hello!

We have finally ordered our IKEA kitchen *excited*
Unfortunately, there was a small issue during the final consultation with the IKEA staff regarding the range hood.
I wanted to get one that is not visible from the outside. It should be installed inside an 80x60 cm (31.5x24 inches) wall cabinet.

According to the staff, I couldn’t choose one where the front panel "lifts up" because then the wall cabinet wouldn’t be allowed to be 80 cm (31.5 inches) high. That’s fine, no problem — there are also models that you operate with buttons on the bottom. But... then they said I wouldn’t be able to install a decorative trim at the bottom because there would be nowhere to attach it.

There are two more wall cabinets, each 80x40 cm (31.5x16 inches), to the left and right of the wall cabinet with the range hood. I think it would look odd if the decorative trim is missing in the middle.
Would it be possible to simply screw the decorative trim to the 40 cm (16 inches) cabinets on the left and right and just leave it off in the middle cabinet with the range hood?

Has anyone else had the same issue? How did you solve it?

Hello, I solved the problem with a flat canopy hood where the decorative strip can be mounted as a handle strip.

Was the handle strip made as a DIY project, or was it provided by the manufacturer? Which type of range hood do you have?

The IKEA Utdrag features a stainless steel strip on the front. There are also flat canopy hoods where, instead, a piece of the decorative trim is screwed on.

Modern kitchen with black upper cabinets, range hood, and glass fronts

What bothers/wonders me about IKEA is that they don’t offer a single headroom range hood. I used to have the “standard” ones and was regularly annoyed by bumping my head. IKEA has been lagging behind here for years. For this reason, I got a proper headroom range hood, and still was able to fit a 40cm (16 inches) tall upper cabinet above it.
Best regards, robi
