We wanted to scarify and apply fertilizer. In two weeks, we will go on vacation, so the lawn can thrive afterwards. Is it worth reseeding problem areas now, or is it better to wait until spring?

It doesn't have to be a cheap fast-acting lawn fertilizer. In autumn, it's better to use one with low nitrogen and high potassium.

I wouldn’t scarify my lawn at all, it just weakens it. Our lawn is never scarified and looks very nice (without moss and weeds). If you regularly fertilize, water, and mow it, you get a very nice, dense, weed-free lawn.So why do the professionals recommend aerating and scarifying?
Our lawn is also very dense, and we water and fertilize it. Still, dead material accumulates between the grass blades. You can especially see these spots when I mow very short. Then, alongside the green, you can still see the gray-yellow of the dead grass blades. And that has to be removed; otherwise, the lawn will eventually turn into a meadow.
