Hello everyone,

We want to extend our existing house, which is built with a timber frame construction, by adding a carport. The carport has a pitched roof. The plan is to remove the carport structure, keeping only the roof. Then, a concrete slab floor will be installed in the former carport area along with three walls, also built with timber framing.

The former carport (which will become living space) is planned to be extended to the left, also with a pitched roof, creating a garage underneath.

In which order should I schedule the trades?

This is what I have in mind:
1.) Structural engineer (support beams need to be repositioned)
2.) Shell construction, foundation
3.) Carpenter/joiner
4.) Electrician
5.) Window installer
6.) Paver for the garage floor
7.) Roofer for the extended roof
8.) Plasterer

I would appreciate any suggestions you might have.

Thank you

I’m afraid you need to take a step further back: a building application is necessary, which means you might need a building planner/architect and possibly a surveyor, since in Germany you are not allowed to simply convert garages into living space. On the other hand, the new garage is likely exempt from permits, unless it is significantly integrated into the new "house."

An indication that it might not be allowed is the border development of a carport. But that wasn’t the question, okay... However, the architect who submits the plan to the authority should be able to answer your question.
