ᐅ Windows directly next to a shower—what about the sill height?

Hello,

does anyone happen to know how high (above the shower tray floor) a knee wall or parapet must be at minimum when the window is directly next to the shower (window sill approx. 12 cm (5 inches))? Also, does the window need to be made of special glass (due to risk of falling through, or rather, risk of falling [why does my keyboard suggest 'falling drunk'!?])?

When I was a child, we had to install additional bars outside the shower window to prevent anyone who might fall through the glass from falling all 5 meters (16 feet) onto the pavement...

If it matters: this is about Hamburg and an older building (but the regulations are the same, right?).

Thanks,

b.

For floor-to-ceiling windows, there are two options for safety measures. The "bars" you mentioned (French balcony) or the lower part of the window is fixed and made of laminated safety glass (VSG).

No, not floor-to-ceiling, more like a "normal" window height. But since the shower is built up from the floor, everything ends up being higher...

Are there any measurements anywhere that specify what is still allowed?

A drawing would explain a lot 😉

Do I understand correctly: a window in the shower?
Why would the risk of falling there be greater than elsewhere?
