ᐅ Bathroom Design – Swapping the Shower and Bathtub?

Hello everyone,

The passage into the shower is giving me a bit of a headache. My husband says 60cm (24 inches) is enough, but I think it should be at least 70cm (28 inches).

Today we measured out 60cm (24 inches) with a tape measure, and we could fit through it quite comfortably, but now the idea came up to possibly swap the spaces of the shower and the bathtub and place the shower in the corner as shown in the example photo, designing it that way.

What do you think about that?

Or do you have any other ideas?

Thanks in advance

Mirror cabinets are usually installed flush with the wall framework. That’s also the case in your setup; otherwise, you wouldn’t have a “wall” to the utility room.

Nothing tight… splashing water in the shower will reach your towels.

That’s right, but I haven’t planned any recesses on the other side of the utility room wall. If I put the washbasins on the shower wall, it would have to be worked on from both sides—I’m not sure if that would be feasible.

The shower itself measures 100 x 140 cm (40 x 55 inches), and there’s another 40–50 cm (16–20 inches) up to the radiator; does water splash that far?

I showed your drawing to my husband; he doesn’t want to enter the bathroom and basically look straight into the shower.

He prefers the current layout, and I’m trying to get a second window included because I think it will be too dark otherwise.

I understand the concerns about "direct visibility into the shower," but you should take a closer look at Yvonne's argument regarding the washbasin. Having a window directly opposite the washbasin is not really ideal.

I know of a bathroom where it’s like that, but with a glass panel on the side. So when you enter, you look directly into the open shower, and it looks normal because the floor has the same tiles as the rest of the bathroom.
But if you don’t like that, that’s fine. There are plenty of other options 🙂
An additional window certainly wouldn’t be a mistake, although privacy screens (to prevent direct views into the open shower, privacy partition near the toilet) and windows in both corners might conflict with each other 😉

That’s exactly why I’m tinkering with it in the first place..

The window in my drawing wasn’t meant to have a privacy screen at the toilet; I made a mistake there 🙄 and then redrew the line out of frustration four more times :p

I could swap the bathtub and sink locations, but then the bathtub would be right up against the shower..

I’ve already tried 9 different layouts; the only ones my husband liked so far are the one I posted here and the one from the main contractor. All the others were rejected.

Is it possible to move the window? With a bathroom width of over 4 meters (over 13 feet), you have many options: try a 2-meter-long (6.5 feet) shower (or 1.8 meters (5.9 feet)) opposite the toilet. Having the sink and bathtub directly opposite each other would also be nice.

So, I think we have almost exactly the same dimensions: 3.07 meters (10 feet) by 4.57 meters (15 feet), so ours is slightly longer. The layout is exactly like your original plan. Differences: no wall between the shower and the sink (there will be a glass panel instead). The window is actually 2 by 1 meter (6.5 by 3.3 feet). I wouldn’t have wanted it any smaller, as that would reduce natural light too much. Having the window behind you doesn’t bother me. We also chose a trapezoidal bathtub, which seemed to fit well with the layout.

I definitely like it a lot and we’re satisfied.
