Good day

We would like a light-colored hardwood floor, either lacquered or oiled.
Because of our furniture, we initially preferred maple flooring. However, we didn’t like maple that much. Birch appealed to us much more. Birch also has a nice sheen.

According to our current information, birch is significantly softer than maple. What do the experts here say about this?

We would also like to know whether these types of wood are better suited to being oiled or lacquered.

Thank you!

It is indeed true that birch is a relatively soft wood. European maple is also softer than Canadian maple. However, not only the hardness of the flooring plays an important role, but also the fundamental properties of the wood. Whether to choose oiled or sealed finishes depends on the usage and personal preferences. Both options have their advantages and cannot be definitively recommended without personal consultation.
