Hello everyone!

I would like to know if hardwood flooring in the kitchen is a good or bad idea. What are your experiences? I am planning to make some changes to my kitchen.

Wishing you all a great day!

I don’t think that’s a good idea.
Hardwood flooring is much more sensitive.
You can only wipe hardwood floors with a damp cloth. In the kitchen, the floor needs to withstand more moisture, whether from spills, tipping over, or during cleaning.
Hardwood is more prone to dents and scratches.

If it is oiled, then I would not do it. Painting would be better.

We have oiled bamboo flooring throughout the entire house and have consistently continued this in the kitchen as well, since we didn’t want a break between the flooring and tiles in the open area. Visually, having the same flooring throughout looks really great.

So far, I have to say: absolutely no problems. Of course, dirt or liquid sometimes gets on the floor, but as long as you don’t let it sit for too long, it’s not an issue at all. To be fair, bamboo flooring is one of the most durable types (it’s harder than oak and handles moisture quite well).

In the living area, where the kids play a lot, we definitely have more dents in the flooring than in the kitchen area.

Personally, I would advise against lacquered finishes. Scratches show very quickly and are almost impossible to properly repair. We have oiled floors... it’s absolutely easy to re-oil them, and they look like new right away... of course, you shouldn’t leave water puddles sitting overnight, but when does that really happen?! It has never happened to us.

No problem. We have had this for 1.5 years now, and anything that has fallen has always been easy to clean up. You can put a rug in front of the stove. There is always a modern, suitable one available.

No problem at all, we lived for 5 years in a rental apartment that had real hardwood flooring throughout (except in the bathroom). It was quite old but well maintained. I think it was lacquered.
If a pot falls in the kitchen or a vase tips over in the living room, you just have to wipe it up immediately – it’s no big deal.
You couldn’t see any grease splashes or anything like that; the area in front of the cooktop looked perfect.
