ᐅ Which type of roof window do you have? Top-hung or standard?

We need to decide whether to install a standard Velux roof window that can be rotated, or a top-hung pivot window. The latter is significantly more expensive, and we need two of them.

In terms of ventilation or the view, it is definitely the better option.

But aside from the cost: maybe I’m thinking about this the wrong way, but don’t top-hung pivot windows potentially encourage young children to climb on the roof?

Or how can these types of roof windows be secured?

I have two lift-and-slide windows. They work like tilt-and-turn windows, but you can slide the sash to the side. This creates an effect similar to a loggia.

I would definitely choose them again. Unfortunately, they are no longer available, so I would also take or recommend the tilt-and-turn option.

So the view would definitely be worthwhile, basically. Although it concerns the children's bedroom windows, and I wouldn’t want them to start any climbing activities in the coming years just to enjoy the view.

That brings us back to the question: while it’s quite difficult to get out of a tilt window, climbing out of a fully opened casement window would be almost inviting. I can’t find any way to secure that – probably there isn’t one, right?

The price difference for two windows would be about 600 euros total, I just recalculated. I thought it would be more.

Children are usually not big fans of romantic views over the roofscape. For them, windows are mainly for light and fresh air; they go elsewhere for adventure. Whether the window has an app to fully open it doesn’t earn any coolness points among their peers. Feel free to go with standard windows there.
