Hello everyone, I am currently looking into Malm furniture from IKEA, specifically dressers and beds. I’m interested in which spare parts are most commonly requested for these pieces, as I am considering offering a spare parts service and want to know where to focus. Are there typical wear parts or frequently defective components that are needed more often? I’m interested in both mechanical parts, such as rails or screws, and other components. Thanks for your experiences and insights!

The most commonly requested replacement parts for Malm furniture are definitely the drawer slides or runners. These components experience increased wear due to frequent use and movement.

First, you should check whether it is a simple break or a bending of the rail, as the latter can often be repaired before a complete replacement becomes necessary.

It is also common for screws and fasteners to become loose or even get lost over time. Here, I always recommend using original replacement parts, as precise fit is crucial.

Drawer slides and screws are the classic options. LED lighting in built-in beds is also often replaced, if present.

Interesting question. To answer it, one should take a closer look at the construction of the furniture. Malm dressers are made from simple particleboard and usually use metal glides or plastic runners for the drawers. Metal glides often fail due to material stretching or imprecise installation.

Another aspect is the connection method: thin screws and connector screws (also called Minifix) often have the problem of loosening or tearing the wood after multiple assemblies and disassemblies. Additionally, there is the issue with cabinet doors, where the hinges can become stiff over time or tear out.

For targeted service planning, it would be helpful to know whether the furniture is mainly used in private homes or commercial settings, as the load differs significantly.

I would like to know: Do you specifically use Malm furniture, and which replacement parts have you needed in your experience?

Exactly, I have a Malm dresser with drawers and a Malm bed myself. So far, I have had issues with the drawer slides, which tend to stick slightly, and on one drawer, a guide rail partly came loose. I haven’t had to replace any screws yet, but the drawer slides do annoy me a bit. I’m also curious if there are spare parts available for the back panels, as these are often damaged.

Drawer slides are indeed the most requested parts for Malm. The original IKEA components are usually roller-type slides with plastic segments that wear out over time due to material fatigue.

The back panels of Malm are made of thin hardboard, which often tears or breaks from improper handling. Replacement back panels are available but are less frequently requested, as users generally do not repair them as often.

Another commonly damaged part is the furniture legs, especially on beds that bear more weight. In my experience, when purchasing replacement parts, it is best to use original IKEA components, as replicas often lack the same precise fit.
