Hello
We have had our Malm bed for quite a while now. At the time, my mattress was still fine, as was my partner’s. So back then, we just used the bed frame with slatted bed bases, put our old mattresses on top, and that worked well.

But now our two mattresses are worn out, and the slatted bed base often shifts, which can be quite annoying. So I’m thinking about getting new mattresses and new slatted bed bases at the same time. Which slatted bed base fits best with the Malm bed?

I have shortlisted these two:
1. Sultan Lonevag
2. Sultan Lödingen

There are also these mattress options:
Sultan Fonnes or Sultan Flataker

Who has experience with these combinations, and are they okay?

Of course, you would need to try out the mattress to make sure it’s comfortable.

I would appreciate any tips.
Best regards

That’s exactly the point – you really need to try lying on it first! Everyone has different preferences, but especially the Fonnes mattress is more like a children’s mattress. So I would actually advise against it. The most expensive mattress isn’t always the best for your comfort, but since we spend about a third of our life in bed, I can only recommend spending a bit more money on something that truly suits you! (Back, stomach, or side sleeper / warm or cold sleeper / allergies? / body weight / back problems / body shape / etc.) You see, the price alone rarely tells the whole story…

Good luck with your selection!

Hi Elvis,
thanks first of all for your reply.
Initially, the slatted bed bases were the priority. I’m not sure which of the two is better.
The first one has an adjustable headrest, the other does not. I would like to know if both slatted bases can be used without any problems with the Malm bed frame. Right now, we still have the cheapest ones in use, as it wasn’t so important to us at the time since the bed and one wardrobe already cost enough, so we saved on the slatted base.
It worked fine, except that it keeps slipping, which is annoying, especially sometimes in the middle of the night. That’s really frustrating.

In theory, you can use either since they both have frames that prevent slipping. Neither is particularly high-quality or comfortable, though. One can be adjusted to a sitting position, the other cannot. Other than that, there’s no difference. I’m not trying to persuade you—if they suit you in terms of sleeping comfort, that’s totally fine. Personally, I don’t consider it a waste to invest a bit of money in something decent when it comes to healthy sleep. But I’m speaking as someone who struggles with back issues...

If you have no physical problems and that’s not a concern for you, then I’m definitely a little jealous—you’ll probably be happy with the Lödingen/Lonevag combination and the Flataker mattress (it’s quite firm, so maybe that’s what you like). Just avoid the Fonnes mattress. If you weigh more than 50-60 kilograms (110-130 pounds), you’ll likely end up bottoming out on it except for the slatted frame.
