Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to upgrade my Ikea Pax wardrobe system and am looking for suitable storage boxes that fit perfectly inside the wardrobes. It is especially important to me that the boxes match the Pax interior dimensions and functionality as closely as possible (e.g., sturdy construction, easy to remove, possibly with a lid or transparent).

Specifically, I am interested in experiences and recommendations for various Ikea storage boxes that fit the standard heights and depths of the Pax wardrobe modules – for example, widths of 50 or 100 cm (20 or 40 inches), heights depending on the shelf or hanging rail. Are there boxes specifically designed for Pax, or are other Ikea boxes (or perhaps third-party alternatives) also recommended?

Who has had good experiences with particular models and can offer tips on what to consider when buying?

Thanks in advance for your detailed answers!

Hello Achimvin,

First of all, a nice and well-structured introduction to the topic. I can confirm that choosing the right storage boxes for Ikea Pax is not straightforward, as both the internal dimensions of the different cabinets and their modular shelves need to be considered.

Basically, the Ikea SKUBB storage boxes fit very well, as they are specifically designed for Pax and other Ikea cabinet systems. They are made of fabric, lightweight, and ideal for clothing or smaller textiles. Dimensions like 35x55 cm (14x22 inches) with about 19 cm (7.5 inches) height fit perfectly in many compartments.

For more robust storage, such as for shoes or heavier items, Ivar crates or Samla boxes also work well. These are made of plastic and available in various sizes. It is important with Samla boxes to match their height to the shelf height; otherwise, they may not fit in the compartment or the door may not close properly.

Achimvin, be sure to check the exact internal dimensions of your Pax cabinet—as there are slight differences depending on the model and series!

If you can share the exact measurements of your internal layout, I would be happy to provide suitable recommendations.

Hey Achimvin, great topic! 👍

I had exactly the same problem when I was filling my PAX. My absolute recommendation is the Skubb boxes, which Ethan already mentioned! They are super practical and fit perfectly into the compartments. Plus, they’re easy to store and can be simply taken out.

Exactly! At first, I was worried the dimensions wouldn’t match, but Skubb works really well with the different shelf heights.

I also often use the Samla plastic storage boxes for the wider compartments. They’re sturdy and stackable. Just make sure the height really fits your cabinet depth; otherwise, the doors won’t close properly.

Hang in there – once you have the perfect setup, organizing is a lot of fun! 😊

I would like to expand the discussion with two critical points that have been somewhat overlooked so far.

Firstly, I believe that the topic of "fit" should not be fully trusted when making it the decisive factor for a purchase decision. Although dimensions for Ikea products are given quite precisely, there are always manufacturing tolerances and variations in construction that can result in, for example, a drawer or box not fitting quite right or interfering with the cabinet mechanism. I would recommend measuring in a realistic way beforehand.

Secondly, practical usefulness should be prioritized. A box that fits to the millimeter is of little use if it is difficult to remove or if the storage space remains too rigid due to fixed boxes, making it inflexible for different items.

Grundsätzlich passen die Ikea Skubb Aufbewahrungsboxen sehr gut, da sie speziell für Pax und andere Ikea Schranksysteme konzipiert sind.

From my point of view, this is mainly true for light, soft materials, but in terms of stability or usability, this cannot be assumed as a given.

So my advice: study the measurements carefully, but also consider the conditions of use.

I partly agree with the previous posts and would like to add a few practical tips that can help when choosing suitable storage boxes for Pax wardrobes.

- The height of Pax interior units often varies between about 25 cm and 58 cm (10 inches and 23 inches), depending on how the shelves or drawers are arranged.
- The "Skubb" series boxes for clothing and accessories are very popular here. They are flexible and do not reduce usable space since they are compressible.
- For heavier or rigid items, I recommend the Samla containers (made of plastic), sized to match the width of the Pax wardrobe (50 or 100 cm) (20 or 40 inches). Be sure to pay attention to the height so everything can be opened easily.
- Another option is third-party drawer inserts, which can help keep things organized.

It is also important during planning to consider the door opening and, if possible, test the fit with doors and drawers to ensure the boxes can be easily pulled out.

In summary: accurate measurements, lightweight boxes for small items, sturdy ones for larger objects, and it will work well.
