Hello everyone,
I am planning to redecorate my daughter’s bedroom and am particularly interested in the IKEA Billy shelving systems. Since there is quite a large selection, I would like to discuss the following question here: Which Billy models are especially suitable for children’s rooms, considering safety, flexibility for toys and books, as well as an attractive appearance? It would also be very relevant for me to know if certain versions are more child-friendly, for example with soft-close doors or rounded edges, and which dimensions or accessories are recommended to make the shelves both child-appropriate and durable.
I would be very happy to receive recommendations and possibly hear about experiences with the different versions!

Which Billy models are especially suitable for children’s rooms when prioritizing safety, flexibility for toys and books, as well as an appealing appearance? That’s a very good and practical question, which I’d like to supplement with my experience. For my child’s room, I chose the Billy bookshelf measuring 80x106 cm (31½x41¾ inches) in white, with doors. The doors have been very helpful in our case to avoid clutter – my daughter can’t just pull everything out, and it also looks tidier.

Fortunately, the edges on the Billy are rounded, which is good for safety.I can definitely confirm that; the edges aren’t sharp. However, I would still add foam edge protectors if very young children are involved.
I also added boxes and baskets as accessories to improve toy organization even further. The shelves are adjusted so everything stays within easy reach. The wall anchoring was done by a carpenter – which is a must for me, especially with active children.
Visually, I find the white models most appealing; they look bright and friendly and fit well with various room designs.
Hope this gives you some more ideas!
