Hello everyone, I have a problem with the drawers of my Ikea Hemnes dresser model. After a relatively short period of use, some drawers stick, are difficult to pull out, or occasionally catch, which is quite annoying in everyday life.

I suspect it’s a malfunction of the drawer slides – possibly bent metal parts or incorrectly installed fittings. Some drawers also appear to be a bit misaligned.

My question to the community: What can I do if Ikea Hemnes drawers fail, meaning they no longer operate smoothly? Are there proven repair methods, replacement parts, or simple tricks that can extend their lifespan?

I look forward to your tips and experiences.

The jamming usually occurs on one side only, meaning the right side tends to stick more often than the left.

It’s interesting that the issue often comes down to the installation. But honestly – how often is IKEA furniture actually assembled properly? One might almost suspect that the manufacturer relies on customers’ poor assembly skills to then sell replacement parts.

I argue that such drawers should work without major problems under normal use. The root cause lies in the constant compromise between low-cost materials, design, and DIY assembly. Maybe we should demand that IKEA provides more durable materials instead of cheap guide rails that fail after just 2 years.

As long as this continues, repairs are just temporary fixes. The solution is either to buy better-quality furniture or to accept dealing with constant tinkering.

That’s an interesting point. My assembly has been quite careful, yet in my opinion, the problems seem to be related to the stress on the sliding rails.

From my perspective, the frequent opening and the choice of materials conflict. Therefore, I would appreciate advice on whether it makes sense to use more durable alternative rails (for example, from third-party suppliers) that are compatible with the Hemnes, or if it is better to stick with the original replacement parts from Ikea.

What do you think? Are there any proven experiences with upgrades for this piece of furniture?
