Hello everyone, I have a problem with the sliding doors on my Ikea Pax wardrobe: they no longer slide smoothly and can be quite difficult to move. The doors stick or move unevenly, which is especially noticeable with the larger doors. I have already tried cleaning the tracks, but it didn’t help much. Does anyone have tips on how to make the sliding doors run more smoothly again? What are common causes and the best ways to fix them? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

I also recommend applying a small amount of silicone spray sparingly to the tracks during cleaning.

That sounds interesting. So far, I have only cleaned with a damp cloth. Is silicone spray really safe for the plastic rollers and the tracks? Or should it only be applied to metal parts?

Silicone spray is generally safe for both plastic and metal and significantly improves lubrication without leaving any residue. However, it is important to apply only a small amount and wipe off any excess with a cloth to avoid attracting dust. Alternatively, a special lubricant designed for plastic can be used if available. Greasy lubricants such as oil or WD-40 are less suitable because they tend to attract dirt.

I recommend also checking the upper track. Sometimes the door does not slide properly there if dirt or debris has accumulated. A clean track at the top and bottom is essential for smooth sliding.

Also check if the doors are hanging straight. Doors installed crookedly or rollers that are improperly adjusted often cause stiff operation. Precise alignment prevents rubbing against the sides or the frame.

With a suitable screwdriver or Allen key, the height and sometimes the angle of the door can be adjusted.

Thanks to everyone so far! I just wanted to add that I’ve already noticed some slight unevenness in the floor when aligning the doors. Could this affect how smoothly the doors operate, and if so, what is the best way to fix it?

Unevenness in the floor can definitely affect the operation of the doors, as the cabinet parts and doors may become misaligned. Use a spirit level to check if the cabinet is standing straight. If not, small shims or adjustable furniture glides can help compensate for irregularities and create a stable base. This significantly improves smooth operation.
