Are there any tips to make Ikea Brimnes doors easier to open?

I have the issue that the doors of my Brimnes wardrobe close very tightly and often open quite stiffly. This not only makes accessing the compartments more difficult but also causes increased wear on the doors and hinges over time. I am particularly interested in proven methods that are easy to implement to make opening smoother.

Maybe someone has experience with adjusting the hinges, lubricants, or other home remedies to make these doors glide more easily? Thanks for any helpful advice.

I prefer to simply use a dry cloth or a little talcum powder to treat the contact points.

I have tried silicone spray, but sometimes it becomes too slippery, causing the door not to stay properly in place.

Does anyone here have experience with alternative types of hinges that can be retrofitted on Brimnes? Or possibly replacing the wide-band hinges with soft-close hinges?

Good question. As far as I know, the Brimnes doors are installed in a way that allows you to adjust the hinges with simple tools, but not easily replace them.

There are soft-close hinges available for retrofit, but it’s usually not worth the effort because modifications to the door itself are often required.

I find it more practical, as mentioned, to focus on adjusting and lubricating the existing hinges.

I repositioned the rubber bumpers on the doors of my Brimnes wardrobe.

As a result, the door opens more easily and no longer slams shut. Very simple, but it makes a difference.

Another aspect is the height adjustment of the hinges.

You can adjust the screws that run vertically so that the door does not rub against the cabinet.

Also, opening the door by gently pulling on the handle edge instead of levering at the side can reduce the stress.

I agree with that. The pragmatic solution is probably to focus on the mechanics rather than costly modifications.

Still, I find it interesting to consider whether the failure rate of the hinges can be reduced by using better materials. However, that would likely be more relevant for the manufacturer.

Thank you very much for the initial tips!

I will loosen the hinges a bit and treat them with silicone spray.

I have one more question: Could it be that the rubber buffers acting as stops are set too tightly, making the door difficult to open? If so, how exactly can they be adjusted without causing the door to rattle when closing?
