joianHello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of equipping my IKEA Besta shelving system with various electronic devices. I want to achieve a clean and, above all, organized cable management solution that allows frequent access to connections while remaining visually appealing. Does anyone have tips or proven techniques for neatly bundling, hiding, and keeping cables flexible within the Besta system? I am especially interested in solutions that work well with the existing furniture modules and are practical for longer cable runs. I appreciate any ideas!

I can understand how frustrating messy cables can be – especially with the Besta system, there’s a high potential for chaos because many devices are often connected in different spots. I also had to try several times before finding my solution.
What worked very well for me:
- Installing cable channels behind the modules that allow cables to be routed neatly.
- Using cable organizers or clips from the hardware store to secure cables both horizontally and vertically.
- Bundling cables with Velcro straps, so they remain flexible and can be quickly adjusted when needed.
Flexibility is especially important to me since I regularly swap or rearrange devices. Sometimes I group individual cables together inside a small box behind the shelf. Also, laying large power strips in a separate compartment helps keep things organized. Maybe this helps you as a starting point?

Hello joian,
I’m happy to get back to you with some more detailed tips, as I’ve worked with the Besta system several times and also value keeping cables organized.
First: try to avoid visible cable clutter on the outside as much as possible. It helps to route cables along the back panels. You can drill small cable pass-through holes into the back panel using an appropriate drill bit, which creates clean passages without cables hanging messily behind the furniture.
I completely agree with this. Self-adhesive hook-and-loop straps are great because they are reusable. This is especially practical with Besta, where you may change devices more often.
Additionally, I recommend installing a small cable channel or cable tray inside the Besta unit, which you can attach either with screws or double-sided tape. This way, you can gather all cables neatly downwards or towards the nearest outlet, avoiding loose hanging loops.
Another tip: plan for enough spare cable length and label the cables if you have many devices. This will save you a lot of hassle when cleaning or rearranging.
Finally, a note about power strips: use flat plugs or power strips with right-angle plugs to maximize the space inside the Besta system.
I hope these tips are helpful to you!
