Hello everyone,

I recently ordered the IKEA Brimnes bed and noticed upon unpacking that some screws were missing, which are essential for a stable assembly. Specifically, the metal connecting bolts and some of the longer wood screws needed for the frame are absent.

I’m wondering what you would recommend in such a case: Should I contact IKEA directly and hope for replacements, or are there practical alternatives to substitute the missing screws? If so, which exact screws should I use to ensure the bed’s stability and safety are not compromised?

Any advice to help me assemble my BRIMNES bed securely would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards!

Oh man, that’s really frustrating! But don’t worry, it’s not uncommon for IKEA to occasionally miss parts. My advice: calmly contact IKEA customer service first; they’re usually quite accommodating and send replacement parts quickly.

If you’re in a hurry, you can also try to get screws with the same dimensions from a local hardware store. Just carefully measure the missing screws, trust your judgment—and then go for it. But be careful not to use just any screw type, or the stability will suffer!

I think with a little patience, you can solve this—and then your bed will be sturdy and secure! 😉

Hello,

In general, contacting IKEA directly is the most practical and reliable solution. IKEA usually provides detailed replacement part kits for their furniture, which can often be ordered for free or for a small fee. This ensures that the materials – such as the screw strength and matching thread type – precisely meet the requirements of the BRIMNES series.

If you are interested in a DIY solution, here is a guide:

- Identify the exact types and lengths of screws using the assembly instructions or the screws you still have.
- Measure the diameters and thread pitch with a thread gauge.
- Prefer screws made of steel with at least strength class 8.8 to ensure the necessary durability.
- Use galvanized or stainless steel screws, especially if the furniture will be placed in more humid environments.

Please keep in mind that incorrect screws can not only compromise stability but also damage the drilled holes or the material. If you are uncertain, please feel free to provide more details about the missing parts (quantity, size), and we will try to assist you more specifically.

Best regards

Just call IKEA and request replacements. They usually send the missing screws free of charge.

If you need a quick solution, get screws of the same length and diameter from a hardware store, but make sure they are the same type (e.g., wood screws).

Hello NATHANEALT,

I had a similar issue when assembling a BRIMNES shelf unit. I can assure you that IKEA’s customer service is very reliable in such cases. Just specify the missing screws exactly, or even better, provide the part number from the assembly manual, and you will receive the parts by mail.

Before you buy screws yourself, I would recommend this approach since the original parts are always perfectly matched to the furniture. Additionally, using the exact screws intended can be important for stability, as they may have special threads or lengths.

If the replacement takes too long, you can buy the original screws at a hardware store, preferably using the measurements from your assembly instructions. However, you should pay close attention to the strength and head type of the screws to avoid damaging the wood.

From my own experience: after ordering replacement parts, it usually takes no longer than a week.

Good luck!

It is generally recommended to use the IKEA spare parts service for missing screws for the BRIMNES furniture, as the written assembly instructions and quality standards are designed for the original components.

Technical details:

- The metal connector bolts for BRIMNES are usually manufactured to ISO standards, with a strength matched to the furniture’s load requirements.
- Screws should have the correct length, diameter, and thread pitch suitable for the material to avoid damaging the wood.

Alternatively, you can purchase screws that exactly match the dimensions specified in the instructions. Hardware stores or specialist builders’ merchants often offer a better selection than general home improvement stores.

When choosing replacement screws, pay attention to:
- Material: galvanized steel
- Strength grade at least 8.8
- Appropriate screw type (wood screws, connector bolts)

Without these criteria, long-term stability cannot be guaranteed.

If you have measurements or a photo of the screw set instructions, please share them, and I can provide more precise recommendations.
