Hello everyone,
I recently purchased the IKEA Brimnes furniture series and am now looking for reliable care instructions to keep the furniture in good condition for as long as possible.
I am particularly interested in which specific cleaning techniques or products are suitable for the surfaces and whether there are any mistakes to avoid during maintenance that could damage the material or finish.
Are there also any tips on how to prevent scratches or typical signs of wear?
I look forward to your experiences and recommendations that go beyond the basic advice provided in the IKEA care guide.

A small addition regarding practical everyday matters:
- Avoid placing hot cups or pans directly on Brimnes surfaces, even though they are sturdy. Heat damage can occur.
- Regularly remove dust to prevent minor scratches caused by dirt particles.
- For stains that cannot be removed with water alone, use gentle rubbing alcohol sparingly and polish thoroughly.
This helps keep the furniture fresh and looking good for longer.

Based on my experience with maintaining BRIMNES, the following applies:
- Do not use abrasive sponges; use soft cloths instead
- Avoid chemical cleaners; use a damp cloth with mild dish soap only
- Remove water droplets immediately to prevent water stains and swelling
- Protect against scratches by using pads under jewelry or similar items

It is advisable to use coasters and avoid placing sharp or heavy objects directly on the surfaces. Thanks for the advice, that makes sense. I’m just wondering if special care is also needed for the inside of the wardrobe? For example, do the edges on the wardrobe doors tend to get damp, or is there anything specific to consider when cleaning the inside surfaces of the drawers? Or are the cleaning instructions for the interior of the furniture the same as those for the exterior?
Similar guidelines apply for the interior surfaces of BRIMNES furniture:
- Wipe interior surfaces with a dry or slightly damp cloth
- Do not use strong cleaning agents
- Avoid constant exposure to moisture inside, as the material may swell
- For drawers, it is best to use a dry cloth or, if necessary, a slightly damp, soft cloth
