Hello everyone, I recently purchased a piece of furniture from the Ikea Hemnes series and am now very interested in the proper care instructions for the type of wood used.

I am especially curious about which specific cleaning products are best to protect the wood from damage, as well as how to effectively remove everyday wear marks without harming the surface.

Additionally, I would like to know if there are any special considerations for prolonged loads (e.g., from plants or heavy objects), and whether Hemnes wood reacts differently to moisture compared to other solid wood types.

It would be great if you could share your experiences, preferred care methods, and any dos and don'ts for Hemnes wooden furniture. Thanks in advance!

Thank you all for the detailed and helpful explanations! I find the tips on preventing trapped moisture and dealing with scratches particularly interesting.

One last question: Are there any differences in maintenance depending on the color – for example, with the white-painted versions compared to the untreated Hemnes furniture? Or do the same basic rules apply everywhere?

I would appreciate hearing about your experiences!

Yes, that is an important point. With white-painted HEMNES furniture, you have a sealed surface that is somewhat more resistant to dirt and moisture. However, the paint layer is sensitive to harsh or abrasive cleaning agents – so you need to be particularly careful here.

For natural or oiled wood, the surface is more porous and tends to absorb moisture more readily, so you should be more disciplined in managing moisture and regularly oil the wood to maintain and protect it.

But the basic rules for cleaning – no aggressive products, no standing moisture, and the use of soft cloths – apply consistently.
