I have been experiencing an issue with my Ikea Hemnes dressers for some time now: the drawers are quite difficult to open and close, and they noticeably stick or feel heavy when sliding. I have already checked for anything getting stuck or objects that might be obstructing the runners—so far, I can rule that out. My specific question is: What can be done if Ikea Hemnes drawers are hard to operate? Are there proven technical tips or methods to improve the smoothness of the drawers without replacing them? It might be the rails or the sliders, but I lack detailed knowledge and possible solutions. I look forward to well-founded suggestions, explanations, and shared experiences.
Good morning everyone,
I would like to add that it is important to maintain drawers regularly, especially for furniture like the Hemnes series, which is mostly made of solid wood. Wood can naturally expand or contract slightly due to weather conditions, which can affect the drawer slides.
- Make sure no objects are stuck on the sides or causing the drawer to run at an angle.
- If you have lubricated the drawer slides with silicone spray, open and close the drawers several times in a row to help distribute the spray evenly.
- If the drawer still moves with difficulty, check whether the screws of the slides have become loose and tighten them carefully.
There are also small felt glide pads that can help compensate for minor shape deviations. I have often used them successfully to make stuck drawers run smoothly again.
I hope this helps you.
