Dear homebuilding forum users,

We are interested in a bungalow from the 1950s. The basement is built with solid construction, but unfortunately, the ground floor is made with steel strip elements (a sandwich construction of steel-insulation-steel). Since we don’t want to live in a steel container, we are considering whether it makes sense to demolish the ground floor and rebuild it with energy efficiency in mind.

Does anyone have an idea of how much a demolition or rebuilding of one floor (about 100 sqm (1,076 sq ft)) might cost? Or how much it would cost to get a rough estimate from an architect or building planner?

We only want to find out if it’s worth it and get an approximate sum for the renovation costs to discuss with the bank. Since we don’t know if it’s worthwhile or even if we will get the bungalow, we don’t want to spend too much on such a “consultation.”

Many thanks for your answers!!
