Hello,

we are currently working on finalizing our bathroom design. We have the following requirements:

Shower
- Spacious shower with a low-profile shower tray, dimensions 120x100 cm (47x39 inches)
- Pre-wall installation for the shower to accommodate concealed fittings (we estimated a depth of 15 cm (6 inches))
- Drywall partition to separate the shower and bathtub
- Glass shower wall on top of the above-mentioned drywall partition
- Shower entrance with an outward-opening door

Bathtub
- Drywall partition behind the bathtub to house concealed fittings (we estimated a depth of 15 cm (6 inches))
- Bathtub built in and tiled

Washbasin
- Double washbasin so that two faucets can be used simultaneously for 2 adults and 2 children (width 130-140 cm (51-55 inches))
- Actually just a mirror, but probably a mirror cabinet only 10 cm (4 inches) deep after all. Built-in mirror cabinets look great, but would require another drywall in front of them, which reduces space.
Also, this would likely increase costs. An argument for just a mirror is that the children can see themselves better as it hangs deeper.
- 2 tall cabinets with a laundry basket behind the lower door for dirty laundry

Questions:
1. I assume there will be no underfloor heating installed beneath the shower and bathtub. And for the shower tray, even if it is not flush with the floor, a hole in the screed must be left to accommodate insulation and the drain pipe?
2. Behind the pre-wall installation of the shower is the children’s room. Since the pipes won’t be in a load-bearing wall, I assume there won’t be the elevated noise levels typical of older buildings. Probably more noise originating from the shower tray itself, which should ideally be insulated as well. Is that correct?
3. We estimated the pre-wall installations for WC, bathtub, and shower to require a depth of 15 cm (6 inches). Is that correct?
4. We estimated the drywall partition at the bathtub to be about 85 cm (33 inches) high. Is that roughly enough to install the fittings?
5. For the double washbasin, is it likely only one wastewater drain pipe and one fresh water pipe (each for hot and cold) are needed?
6. If we decide against a mirror cabinet, we are unsure where to store the chargers for the electric toothbrushes. We would have to install a socket in the tall cabinet. I found a wall holder for Braun toothbrushes on Google, which looked okay at first glance. Does anyone have other ideas?
7. To the right of the tall cabinet, we plan to install a small shelf where a laundry basket can also be placed underneath (our technical/storage room isn’t very large).
8. A small bench or seating area under the window

We would greatly appreciate any suggestions and opinions.

Have a nice evening.

You’re asking many questions covering a wide range of topics (screed, masonry, plumbing, electrical, fittings...), so the number of detailed answers is decreasing...

Why are you planning in such fine detail?
Is this for new construction or renovation? What do you intend to do yourself?

Most of it will become clear once you sit down with a good plumber, who will then tell you everything you need to know.
For example, I don’t understand why you assume a 15cm (6 inches) wall buildup. Most block sizes would be around 11.5cm (4.5 inches).

Hello @Osnabruecker,

thank you for your reply. Yes, it did turn out to be quite detailed. I don’t expect an answer to everything. :-)
If we get some feedback on one or two questions, that would already help us a lot. But in hindsight, I think less might have been better. 🙂
Most of the walls will be drywall partitions, except maybe the wall between the shower and bathtub, which could probably be built as a solid masonry wall.
I estimated the dimensions of the drywall partitions to generally plan the space, so that everything fits in sequence.
Good luck

But you haven’t answered the questions directed at you yet!

OMG, this is almost our bathroom.

Floor plan of a bathroom: toilet on the left, bathtub at the top, washbasin at the bottom; room size 9.7 m² (104 sq ft).

There are still a few display errors in the drawing, but overall it fits. Above the bath and toilet, there is a double casement window.

The washbasin is installed on a stud wall, and the toilet is positioned in the center.
