ᐅ Extended Warranty for Heat Pumps from alpha innotec – Is It Worth It?

In May, a heat pump from alpha innotec was installed in our single-family house for hot water and heating. We have a 5-year warranty on it. Now we have received an offer to extend the warranty to 10 years.
The total cost for the warranty extension is about EUR 1500. An additional condition is an annual maintenance fee of currently EUR 407 per year.
What do you think about this? Is it worth it?

Did you have the system commissioned by the manufacturer’s service team? We were told that the 5-year warranty is only granted if this is done (this commissioning service by the AI company was an additional cost of 500€).

We were also advised to sign a maintenance contract, but no costs were specified. Our AI brine-water heat pump has now been running trouble-free for 2 years ;-) and I don’t expect any problems in the next 8 years (although I can’t guarantee that, of course). However, the roughly 3,500€ cost for 5 years of maintenance and extended warranty is a bet that AI is quite likely to win, at least statistically. Otherwise, they wouldn’t offer it ;-)

Hard to estimate, we received a similar offer where only maintenance was needed (different manufacturer). We were also planning to go for it. You can also think of it as a kind of insurance that costs about €50/month for the next 10 years.

If your heat pump breaks down after 10 years and one day, it’s not worth it. If it breaks after 5 years and one day, it is worth it. That’s how all insurance works. You take it out hoping you’ll never need to use it.
