Hello forum,

I would like to tile a wall in the hallway halfway up. I have small tiles measuring 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches). I have never tiled before, so I have no experience. Nevertheless, I would like to give it a try.

How should I finish the top edge of the tiled wall? It will be at about 120 cm (47 inches) high. Should I use one of those edge trim strips that you often see in bathrooms? Wouldn’t that make it look like a "bathroom" in the hallway?
Does anyone have a good idea for finishing the top edge?

In our rental apartment, for example, there is no finishing trim at the top of the bathroom either. They simply sealed the joint and painted over it.

Here we go, the tiles are installed. The edge will be finished with acrylic sealant.

Someone else laid the tiles; I did the grouting. Now I’m really happy with the colors. For those curious: this is how it looks—I tiled the hallway at the entrance and the guest WC:

Large square tile mosaic in colorful patterns on a wall in the hallway.

Wall panel made of brightly patterned square tiles next to a door with blue glass.

Small washbasin, colorful pastel tiles, red towel, wooden soap dispenser, round light fixture.

I think this is a real eye-catcher

Thank you! The tiled backsplash in the hallway is meant to cover scratches and marks along the wall. The wall used to look shabby quite quickly. I have quite a bit of foot traffic downstairs in the house and needed to come up with a solution. I didn’t want it to look like “I have to protect myself from your handbags and dirty coats.”

Now it has become a “stoneware on plaster” feature.

I’m glad others find it attractive too. Although I’ve received a lot of positive feedback, you really don’t see colored tiles very often. I say, go for it!

The one short edge is obviously a bit unfortunate, but don’t worry about it— the tilers messed up on mine several times as well. Unfortunately, I only noticed it later.

Much worse for me is the sometimes opposite slope in the walk-in shower.

Otherwise, the colorful design wouldn’t be for me, but it does look nice.

Which short edge are you referring to? The one to the left in the toilet? You can’t even see it in the photos. 😀 The restroom is so small that I can’t capture everything inside in one picture.
