Hello forum,

I would like to tile a wall in the hallway halfway up. I have small tiles measuring 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inches). I have never tiled before, so I have no experience. Nevertheless, I would like to give it a try.

How should I finish the top edge of the tiled wall? It will be at about 120 cm (47 inches) high. Should I use one of those edge trim strips that you often see in bathrooms? Wouldn’t that make it look like a "bathroom" in the hallway?
Does anyone have a good idea for finishing the top edge?

On the wall to the left of the sink, near the end of the wall, there is a narrow strip made of very thin tiles. Usually, this would be done by cutting the first tile roughly in half, so that the strip at the end is wider, not just a thin line. Ideally, the strips at the beginning and the end should be the same width.

Unless you intended it that way, then it’s okay. Although, personally, I would have had a similar thin strip at the beginning (that is, in the corner). But as I said, I have this issue in many places because I didn’t pay attention while the tilers were still here, and unfortunately, they were not reachable afterwards.

Yes, I had to cut the tiles on the far left. But I don’t think it’s a big deal. The method you suggested seemed too irregular to me. The tiles are only 10cm x 10cm (4 inches x 4 inches), and if you cut them smaller, there isn’t much left. Then the grout lines would just form a stripe pattern.
So this way is fine; I don’t think it looks bad.
The door frame is visible in the photo. But the small strip on the left does actually exist.

No problem, especially if you did it yourself, it’s great.

But just to explain what I mean, there are no more grout lines; the leftover tiles are just more evenly distributed, something like this:

Empty game board with beige background and fine black grid of squares, no pieces

instead of this:

Large rectangular beige grid with many equally sized squares and thin black lines.

I think it’s more pleasing to the eye. But maybe that’s just me.
