Hello everyone,
I am currently building a house with a general contractor.
The plaster was specified as level Q2. I paid an extra €2000 for Q3 to the tradesperson.
Painting and tiling are being done by myself.

Now I have found several damaged spots on the walls. There are scratches and dents (probably caused by the tradesperson). Sometimes the damage is around outlets or switches. The electrician was not careful when knocking out the flush-mounted boxes.

I spoke with the site manager. He says this is the painter’s responsibility. The painter (in this case, me) should fix these spots.

How was it in your experience? Preferably for both situations: painting as a DIY task and when contracted out.

Thank you for your answers.

We coordinated the trades among each other, and they resolved such issues immediately on the spot. Are you the painter? Fix it properly, and that’s it. It’s no big deal.

It would be disproportionate to have the craftsman come out again over such minor issues.

Clearly a painter,
that’s why a plasterer wouldn’t start again and neither would an electrician

The painter is responsible for this. Depending on the severity of the damage, I would consider withholding some payment from the party responsible. That was the case for us. The electrician made several mistakes. Ceiling outlets had to be repositioned after the ceiling was wallpapered. I deducted the additional costs that our painter charged from his payment.

Filling small dents is a standard procedure in painting work to prepare the surface. Normal.
