Hello everyone,
As the title suggests, I wanted to check who has experience with painting services at this stage. We have received a quote for our 135 m² (1453 sq ft) single-family house of about €14,000 including materials. They plan to apply so-called fleece wallpaper to the walls, which seems to be quite popular nowadays.
In my opinion, the price is still quite high.
Can anyone offer some advice?

In 2020, we received a similar quote from our general contractor (with a slight markup) of 14,000 for 152m² (1634 sq ft), 1.5 stories, very similar to your case. The scope of work was also comparable.
We also found it too expensive. In the end, we hired a painter ourselves. He did everything for 6,000, including materials – however, in consultation with us, he mostly skipped sanding and filling, only doing the roughest work. Instead of smooth wallpaper, we chose a textured non-woven fabric to hide some of the imperfections.
This saved us 8,000 euros – but to claim that it’s unnoticeable would be misleading.
Besides price, you should always consider the quality offered and what compromises you are willing to accept.

110 m2 (1184 sq ft) bungalow with walls and ceilings fully clad in Fermacell drywall by the general contractor in 2020. Then, a local painter carried out filling, sanding, and priming to Q3 level, followed by the application of Sto smooth fleece and painted with Sto-Color in white on walls and ceilings. Additionally, in 4 rooms, individual walls (20 m2 / 215 sq ft) were painted in contrasting colors with Sto-Color.
The screed was also filled, joints sealed with resin, sanded, and covered with adhesive vinyl flooring. Baseboards were installed as well. The complete work cost approximately €16,000 in March 2020.
However, this is a rural area, so there was likely no metropolitan price premium like in Munich, Cologne, Hamburg, or Berlin, whatever.
