Hello hardworking DIY enthusiasts,

Unfortunately, I’m not very experienced with DIY and have little technical knowledge.

My question:
My current room used to be part of our former terrace, so three of the four walls are made of polystyrene insulation. Now, I want to mount an LED TV (about 9 kg (20 lbs)) on a wall bracket attached to this wall.

Yesterday, I hung an Ikea shelf weighing around 3 kg (7 lbs) on the wall, and the screws didn’t hold very well – but when I shake the shelf now, it hardly moves.

Does anyone have an idea if the TV will hold up, or how I could improve the mounting? Due to space limitations, I can only mount it on this wall :/

My idea was to have a custom wall bracket built by a professional to ensure greater stability – but I’m not sure how that would look or be done.

I’m looking forward to your help.

Thank you in advance!!!

Hmm, do you mean the walls are covered with Styrofoam? What is underneath? I would recommend a very large support surface for the mounting, which could then be almost as large as the TV itself, made from about 2mm (0.08 inch) sheet metal.

Hello.

Maybe you could check if you can get a ceiling mount for a TV.

Above all, it is important that the wall mount for the television is of high quality, as in my opinion this poses the greatest risk to safe living. The wall material should be able to support the device properly if installed correctly.

To add to that, a friend has also had bad experiences with polystyrene walls and secure living. If the wall is too thin, the mounting can come loose after some time!

Oh yes, always drilling right into the thermal insulation—the surest way to create some serious thermal bridges.
