ᐅ Tips for Flooring

Hello dear forum members,

I am currently in the process of selecting the flooring for a new single-family house.

Concept so far:
- Basement with entrance area will be fully tiled with anthracite slate, as well as all concrete staircases with masonry balustrades
- Office will have "Turmalin" laminate from Moderna, as will the hobby room
- Utility room standard tiles

- Ground floor dark slate hallway including stairs
- Kitchen and living room fully tiled with wood-look tiles

- Upper floor dark slate hallway
- Children's rooms and bedroom "Nordland Oak" laminate from Moderna

My questions:

1) Due to the solid staircase and the masonry balustrade, the shell construction in the basement and ground floor appears quite dark. By the way, the walls will be completely white.

- With our tile choice, will it be too dark, or will it still look great combined with white walls and ceilings?

2) So far, the staircase is simply tiled. Would it look better to design it with different tiles or even install longer wooden stair treads on top, or is it fine as we plan it? Maybe paint the inner area vertically white as a contrast?

3) Is there a better alternative interior design concept?

4) What do you think about tiling everything completely with Nature Side from Villeroy & Boch? Like Viebrockhaus, Jette Joop life Design... I especially like the entrance area that way. The counterargument is 200 m² (2153 sq ft) of tiles might feel overwhelming?

I believe you are mistaken about the sensitivity. Good hardwood flooring is very durable, easy to maintain, and still creates a cozy atmosphere, even in the kitchen.

It is difficult to recommend which type of flooring to choose. Everyone has a different preference. The same applies to wood-look tiles, which personally would not be an option for me.

Allow me to add a comment, although it is not the main topic: in my opinion, the layout of the ground floor should be reconsidered. The kitchen, dining, and living areas do not seem to fit well together. At first glance, the paths from the kitchen to the dining room appear too complicated.

In our opinion, hardwood flooring is not suitable due to its sensitivity, especially if children are around.
Children are actually not that delicate. And hardwood flooring doesn't get damaged by them anyway.
