Help, we recently painted our living room and after 6 weeks it still smells strongly.
The odor is hard to describe; it does not smell musty or like rotten eggs.

The following materials were used:
Primer for plaster from Sto Silicate
Silicate plaster primer: StoPrep Sil
Silicate topcoat plaster: StoDecosit K
Paint: Stocolor Sil Comfort
The room is completely empty → another source of the odor can be ruled out

Ventilating does not remove the smell. My building biologist is at a loss, and a contaminant analysis covering 300 substances also did not show anything. Does anyone have any ideas?

I’m not sure if this helps or if it was exactly that smell. But our silicate paint also had a specific odor for about 2 months. Maybe try smelling inside the paint bucket to see if it could be the same odor.

Only the living room? So the existing structure? What was on the wall before, and how was it prepared before the base coat and finishing plaster were applied?

If it smelled exactly like paint from the can, the original poster would probably have noticed that already (I hope)...

Yes, we only renovated the living room.
We removed the wallpaper and applied the base plaster on the existing gypsum wall (masonry, built in 1995).
The paint can smells normal :/

Hmm, not sanded beforehand? It could be that the old adhesive or even the old plaster is reacting with something. But I don't know enough about that either.

No, not sanded down :/ hmm, that would really be unfortunate!
