Hello everyone,

Since I do a lot of manual work myself, I know how much good tools can help during the execution. I have had little experience with painting and plastering so far, but I will be doing these tasks myself. I have already bought a decent plastering tool set and wanted to know if there is also a good painting tool set? All those Amazon sets are okay for one room but not suitable for an entire house. Do you have a good manufacturer to recommend?

Thank you very much!

That’s true.

Only the paint from the hardware store is better. The classic Alpina white, for example, splatters a lot compared to other paints. Schöner Wohnen is not better. The coverage is okay. I just painted with a Conti siloxane paint. You wouldn’t even need to cover the floor because it hardly splatters at all. The consumption is also significantly lower than with Alpina and others.

So, my site manager told me I should paint the utility room now before the heating system is installed because after that, many areas won’t be easily accessible. I primed the walls and ceiling with Sto Prim and the next day I applied Sto Mineral paint. But even after the second coat, the result is not really good. I will probably need to apply a third coat. Is this normal? I expected it with the concrete ceiling, but also on the plaster? Or is the paint not very opaque?

The opacity of StoColor Sil Mineral is actually lower than that of StoColor Sil In. That is also why it is more affordable.

Ah, that explains a lot :/ Luckily, I only ordered one bucket for now 😀

In the neighboring construction project, the Sil In coating has just been applied, at least twice. In the living room, it was even applied three times because it still didn’t provide full coverage. This is most noticeable in the south-facing living room.

Today, we painted part of the utility room using leftover paint from the neighbors. The second coat was applied wet-on-wet due to time constraints; tomorrow the meter cabinet will be installed. We will assess the result tomorrow. If it's not satisfactory, my second construction mantra applies: It fades into the background over time.

I fully agree when it comes to tools. This starts with the tape (adhesion strength) and ends with brushes (brush hairs on the wall). In my opinion, this conclusion does not apply to paints. For example, the clay paint from Hornbach’s "house brand" is excellent in terms of application and coverage – including minimal mess.
