Hello everyone,
We are currently considering whether to install a Velux window directly in the bedroom. The model is GGU S06, made of plastic, with dimensions of 114 x 118 cm (45 x 46 inches).
The cost for this would be 1400€.
The roof window would face north/northwest.
There is a floor-to-ceiling window in the room facing west/southwest.

I actually find the noise quite cozy I had it as a child and would regularly wake up because of it.
If you’re not used to it, I would avoid it. It can backfire. These things are expensive, heat up the house, and are also prone to malfunctions.
Later, I lived in an apartment with roller shutters, which was good.
Significantly quieter and cooler. Not great with snow and ice, though, because then they stop working entirely. I also had one as the only window covering in the bathroom, and during two harsh winters, ventilation wasn’t possible anymore. It froze completely shut.

stefanc8426 Sep 2017 00:00Roof windows can be nice, especially facing north. However, I didn’t think they were worth the cost, and I’ve also experienced that roof windows tend to be more vulnerable. Insulation is usually somewhat less effective as well. In any case, we didn’t install any. However, many people advised us to include them – roof windows do seem to be very popular.
Hello, thank you very much for the responses.
The room measures 3.90m x 3.40m (13 feet x 11 feet), so it is almost square. We have now decided against adding a window. We visited the room twice at dusk, and even then it was still bright enough.
I have been familiar with roof windows for 10 years; personally, I don’t mind them. Okay, it might get louder during hail, but hail isn’t that frequent anyway.
And if, in five years or so, we realize that we would like to have a window here after all, it can always be installed later. It’s not impossible to do.

Knallkörper26 Sep 2017 12:31We now have an additional skylight in every room. Shutters are mandatory, as noise from rain is only an issue during very heavy downpours. Normal rain is barely noticeable. This probably also depends on the glazing.

We have a skylight and a floor-to-ceiling window in our bedroom and do not want to do without them. They provide plenty of natural light, and with the two windows, cross ventilation works very well.
However, it is important to ensure the skylight can be properly shaded in summer to prevent heat buildup in the room. There are nice combinations available, such as Velux windows with roller shutters and, for example, insect screens, depending on what you need.
