Hello everyone,
After months of waiting, our shower doors finally arrived. Unfortunately, the door in the guest bathroom broke into thousands of pieces during installation. Fortunately, I had hired an installation service from the manufacturer and didn’t install it myself. The installer was lucky to only be startled and was unharmed. Apart from some damage to the walls and tiles, we have a shower tray in the guest bathroom which has several small chips.
Is this serious, or are these primarily cosmetic defects?
There are repair specialists for bathtubs and similar surfaces. Does it make sense to use such a service, or should I insist on a replacement? Can they restore the appearance perfectly?
Best regards and stay healthy.

What exactly are you planning to claim? Did you not damage it yourself? Hmm... are you referring to claiming defects possibly related to workmanship?
How can the coating be damaged?
I can count on two hands how many times the bathtub has been used (never for bathing) or how often hair has been washed in it. And if you don’t have an answer to my question, please save yourself the trouble, thank you!

How can the coating get damaged?Something can fall onto it, causing small chips to come off. Shower heads, toys, hair dryers, wooden handles, glass jars… The damage looks like that. It doesn’t happen gradually over time. Bathing doesn’t cause it either, even if you bathe every day.
Since you probably don’t use the tub often, as you say, and it wasn’t like this at the start, the damage is most likely caused by the things falling on it.
The tub itself is quite inexpensive for the enamel category, at under €500. … but you’re welcome to try it anyway.

Are you 100% sure that no child or anyone else has dropped a hairbrush, the showerhead, or anything else on it?
Otherwise, I think it’s hard to get through. We definitely haven’t used the bathtub at all for the last 6-7 months. It’s sitting in a corner where nothing can fall on it or anything like that. It’s about 2.5 m (8 feet) away from everything else, like the sink, for example.
And our daughter is 13; she has never used the bathtub.

The damage looks like that. Such things don’t happen gradually over time. Today I saw that the coating was slightly peeling, like a bubble, and then I picked at it, which is why it looks more noticeable now.
It may sound unbelievable, but it is impossible for anything to fall on it. For example, the showerhead hangs on the wall so that I don’t even have to take it down when washing my hair; I just turn the water on and off.
I can’t explain it at all. When the first chip in the coating appeared, I initially thought one of the three of us had done something. But now, after about 6 months and with absolutely no use of the bathtub, it happened again.
I will ask the general contractor/plumber about it… but thanks for your input!

You could take another close-up photo. It looks like damage from a falling object. It looks like this now because I rubbed/picked at it.
I have contacted our claims representative at the general contractor and sent photos. She is now reaching out to the plumbing contractor. We’ll see what happens...
