ᐅ Should the driveway to the garage be sloped or include a small step?

X_SH5_XHello everyone,
we want to create a small pathway (approximately 5m (16 feet) long and 72cm (28 inches) wide – with curb stones each 6cm (2.4 inches) thick, plus one stone 40cm (16 inches) wide and another 20cm (8 inches) wide) from the driveway to the platform where the stairs lead to the house.
Now my question is: if I place the curb stones so they align flush with the platform and also flush with the curb stone at the driveway, then the path would run slightly "diagonal," since, for example, the platform likely has a slope of about 2–3cm (0.8–1.2 inches) over 1m (3 feet), and at the driveway the ground next to the house is higher.
I hope you understand what I mean. Alternatively, if I lay the curb stones at the same height, I would end up with a small step at the platform and on the other side. Do you have any advice? Thanks.

hanghaus20006 May 2021 13:23How the string for the edge stones is stretched should work well. Or is there also a granite nosing (riser?) on the side of the platform?
My problem is that if I set the other curbstones to the same height as the existing ones, there would be an edge here at the platform. The platform has a slope, so the curbstone would not align flush with the platform if it were at the same height as the other curbstone.
I hope this makes sense 🙂

then the path would run a bit "diagonally" because, for example, the platform at 1m (3 feet) probably has a slope of 2-3cm (about 1 inch), and at the back by the driveway, the area toward the house is higher as well. So? What’s the problem with that?No idea if this is a problem. I just wanted to know the "correct" way to do it, whether it’s better to have the path run at an angle or not. Maybe a professional landscape gardener would say you should never do it that way and that the path absolutely shouldn’t be laid at a slight angle.
But I would prefer it like that, mainly for the visual effect. Just wanted to get a few opinions. Thanks.
