Hello,

The topic says it all. What would you choose, and why?

At the moment, I am leaning towards black granite because

- I don’t want tiles or wood on the stairs
- it matches the dark / anthracite-colored tiles
- I can still opt for a thinner covering later on

However, I would only want about 3cm (1¼ inches) thick granite slabs; the rest of the staircase would then be white.

Best regards, Andi

We are using wood and leaving the front part white as well.

I would definitely go for a covering that is a bit more slip-resistant.

I also once had the slip resistance argument in mind. But I put it aside because inside the house it’s hardly ever wet or damp, unless it has just been freshly mopped.
When dry, granite probably isn’t much more slippery than varnished wood, right?

We have dark granite 3 cm (Nero Impala polished) with risers.

When there is a little bit of dust on the steps, the staircase becomes quite slippery with my house slippers...

No granite at all. Choose a nice porcelain stoneware tile; there is a wider selection available. However, it is more difficult to install than a solid step.
What we especially didn’t like was that the granite is highly polished.

Is there porcelain stoneware available in such "pieces"?
What I really do not want at all are joints on the stairs.
